- Celebration of GODIVA chocolatier's 90th Anniversary –
While saluting nine decades of achievement, GODIVA Chocolatier's collaboration with the cutting-edge Belgian artist underlines its commitment to nurturing the art and innovation at the heart of the brand.
Since its inception in 1926, Godiva Chocolatier has been celebrated for its creative, forward-thinking approach to chocolate-making. Tangible in its complex, unique chocolate pieces and its whimsical yet sophisticated packaging; the chocolatier has a long history of combining craft with creativity.
Famed for his bold, vibrant artwork, Brussels-based artist, Oli-B, was commissioned to work his artistic magic on Godiva's iconic gold box. The artistic partnership is a testament to the chocolatier's progressive approach to design – explains Global PR Director, Laurence Koutny: “We preserve a proud heritage of craftsmanship, passion and innovation, at Godiva. For our 90th anniversary, we chose Oli-B because we felt a strong synergy with him. He is a proud Belgian with a unique and imaginative aesthetic, whose work requires great skill and precision, which poses the similar values as Godiva.”
Full of verve and energy, the young Belgian has created a tableau of vibrant colours, evoking the joyous drama of fireworks. Explains Oli-B: “I wanted to make the elegant gold box colourful and joyful – 90 years in business is a cause for great celebration, so my main inspiration were fireworks and all the energy, colour and happiness that they bring”. Signalling an exciting year of collaboration between the young artist and Godiva, chocolate and art-lovers should expect the spectacular, all year long!
Inspired by popular culture, Oli-B's work spans a huge array of media: acrylic, spray paint as well as screen printing techniques, which are presented on a wide variety of surfaces, including paper, canvas, wood, street walls and even stickers. His colourful, graphic aesthetic can be traced back to his training as a graphic designer at Brussels' Saint Luc university. From his childhood through to his university years, Oli-B spent much of his free time teaching himself to paint and developing his own striking style.
